Texas State Troopers are as iconic to Texas as longhorns, bluebonnets and high school football. In BadgesRP we have, of course, Highway Patrol Troopers. In addition to these Troopers, we also have Trooper Investigators (Not to be confused with Texas Rangers). These Troopers assume more of a detective role. Texas Game Wardens are also lumped in with DPS simply out of convenience, as they are also a State agency.
The Houston Police Department serves the incorporated City of Houston. Due to the size of the City, Houston Police has what is known as Extra-territorial Jurisdiction, meaning they can respond into the county for cases such as a fresh pursuit. In addition to the patrol division, Houston Police have other divisions that assist in the law enforcement protection of the City - Gang/Narcotics Task Force, Detectives, motor division, mounted patrol, etc.
The Harris County Sheriffs Department is responsible for all unincorporated areas of the county (outside of the City of Houston), but because the City lies in the county, HCSO units may respond as needed into the City, but often defer to Houston Police. Harris County Sheriffs Department has several different bureaus to choose from - Patrol, Detective, motor patrol, mounted patrol, etc.
The Houston Fire Department provides fire protection services and emergency pre-hospital care within the City of Houston. HFD currently has an active mutual-aid agreement with Little York Fire Department and will respond into the county when requested.
The Little York Fire Department began as a volunteer fire dept., but moved to being a paid department with the formation of ESD-17 (Emergency Services District). LYFD provides fire protection services and emergency first responders for the unincorporated areas of Harris County. LYFD participates in a mutual-aid agreement with Houston Fire Department and will respond into the City if requested to do so.
The Harris County Emergency Corps is an entity unto itself and provides emergency response and pre-hospital care for the unincorporated areas of Harris County. HCEC will respond into the City when requested to assist HFD or patients request transport to a City hospital.
